Introducing the Steel-it Polyurethane 14oz Spray Can 3 Pack, the ultimate solution for protecting steel in a variety of environments. When it comes to system recommendations, Steel-it has you covered.
For atmospheric service in light to moderate duty areas, simply apply one coat of the STEEL-IT Alkyd Weathering Primer #2203 followed by a coat of Steel-it Polyurethane within 4 to 24 hours. For heavy-duty service, the recommended application includes one coat of STEEL-IT Alkyd Weathering Primer #2203 and two coats of Steel-it Polyurethane, all within 4 to 24 hours of applying the primer. Proper surface preparation is essential for achieving optimal results. In general use and light atmospheric service, ensure the surface is hand or power tool clean, removing all oils, salts, and contaminants.
In heavy-duty service, sandblast the surface to an SSPC-SP-6 (commercial blast) with a cut and angular anchor pattern of 1.5-2.0 mils deep. When it comes to film thickness, apply one coat with a minimum of 3.0 dry mils thickness for general use. For heavy-duty applications, two coats with 3.0 dry mils per coat are recommended. If the surface has been blasted, measure the film thickness from the peaks of the anchor pattern. Drying time is efficient, with the coated surface drying to the touch in just 2 hours.
It's important to recoat within 24 hours for best results. The finished system can be put into light service in 36 hours, but complete curing and maximum hardness and protection will be achieved in 5-10 days. Coverage is impressive, with a theoretical coverage of 150 sq. ft.
per gallon at 3.0 dry mils. However, it's important to note that in practice, these values can be reduced by at least 25% due to loss factors. To ensure optimal performance, there are a few limitations to keep in mind. Apply Steel-it Polyurethane only when surface and ambient temperatures are above 40°F, with a relative humidity of less than 86%.
The surface temperature should be at least 5°F above the dew point. Additionally, this coating is recommended for surfaces where operating temperatures will not exceed 200°F.
