Ancient & Classical Editorial Review
The Iliad; Emily Wilson’s translation in hardcover is remarkable for its ability to bring immediacy to the story while retaining its brutal essence. The language is deliberate and well-crafted, allowing readers to experience the weight of themes such as war and grief. Characters like Achilles and Hector are vividly human, making their struggles deeply relatable. Wilson emphasizes emotional depth throughout the poem, ensuring that moments of sorrow and rage resonate as powerfully as the battles. Readers appreciate the thorough notes section that clarifies complexities and adds to the comprehension of the text, making this version particularly accessible for newcomers while still rewarding for seasoned readers.
